Patient safety is a serious concern in most developed and developing countries alike. Recent studies consistently show, in an increasing number of countries, that health care errors occur in around 10% of hospitalizations. The concept of the patient safety is described with many operational definitions - each defined by the research context.

In general, the term patient safety describes the tendency to provide conditions and interventions for patients in the healthcare settings that would enable and ensure the desirable outcome. The broadness of this concept embraces both medical and non-medical errors that can incur during the patient stay at the healthcare setting.
